Standing Stones at Callanish

Standing Stones at Callanish, Isle of Lewis, Outer Hebrides

Taken during a fantastic road-trip last year, this spot was certainly one of the highlights! The story of the stones at Callanish (Calanais, in the local Gaelic language) starts some 5000 years ago, with further stone circles scattering the surrounding windswept landscape of the west coast of the Isle of Lewis. The main site at Callanish consists of an inner circle of stones up to 4m high, overlaid with a cruciform pattern of smaller stones, 4 of which are shown in today’s photo.

This is the first blog post on this brand new website – check back frequently as I will be adding at least one photo a day for the whole of 2017! Some of these photos will be available to buy, while others will document interesting bits and bobs I encounter along the way.

Today’s photo is available to purchase here.
